2018 SUMMER CAMPS AT FCMoD!

Priority FCMoD member registration opens Friday, February 16th. Full registration opens Tuesday, February 20th.

A limited number of Summer Camp scholarships are available; special thanks to Walker Manufacturing and other generous donors for their support. Courtyard Summer Camps – Held at the Historic Heritage Courtyard, 200 Mathews St.

New for 2018: All courtyard camp sessions will run from 8:30am-12:30pm. Students should bring their own lunch. The museum will provide a snack for students each day.

Learn reading, ‘riting, ‘rithmatic, and recitation the way it was taught in the old days! Take a step back in time and experience what a student’s life and school day were like in a 20th century schoolhouse. A period-appropriate teacher leads students through a traditional curriculum including academics, citizenship, music, crafts and games. The week culminates in a recital for family and friends, featuring ice cream made by the students!

Student ages: 6 – 12 years old
Tuition: $150 per child

Would you have been a successful homesteader in Colorado? Explore the daily lives of 19th century settlers – and what life was like on the wagon trail – while learning about the Homestead Act of 1862 that brought so many immigrants west for a new life! Homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency and in this camp, we’ll work together to experience activities, such as making homemade butter and candles to orienteering and tying knots. Costumes encouraged!

Student ages: 9 – 12 years old
Tuition: $150 per child

Summer Camps – Held at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, 408 Mason Ct

New for 2018:

Half-day camp sessions

Half-day camp sessions will run from 9:00am-12:00pm or 1:00pm-4:00pm (as indicated). Snack will be provided for students each day, but there will not be a lunch time during the camp.

Full-day camp sessions

Full-day camp sessions will run from 9:00am-4:00pm. Students should bring their own lunch. The museum will provide two snacks for students each day.

Dual Registration

If students are registered for a morning and afternoon half-day camp session in the same week, the museum will provide care from 12:00pm-1:00pm between the camp sessions at no additional charge. Students should bring their own lunch. The museum will provide two snacks for students each day.

Ages 3-5 (Adventures)

Who lives in a tree? What crawls underground? There are animals everywhere! Through hands-on crafts and guided exploration, students will learn all about where different animals find their homes – they’ll even get to meet the animals that live right here at FCMoD!

This camp includes a guided visit to The Farm at Lee Martinez Park (included with registration cost).

Student ages: 3-5 years old

*NOTE: Students must have experience with pre-K classroom routines and structure. This is a student only class, so students must be capable to be away from parents for 3 hours.

Tuition: $150 per child

What does an astronaut need to prepare for blast-off? What can we find in outer space? Students will spend the week preparing for space travel and exploring the moon, the stars and the planets! Do you have what it takes to explore the galaxy?

Student ages: 3-5 years old

*NOTE: Students must have experience with pre-K classroom routines and structure. This is a student only class, so students must be capable to be away from parents for 3 hours.

Ages 6-8 (Explorers)

Calling all rocket scientists, astronauts, and space explorers! Discover what it takes to reach for the stars. Fly through the cosmos in our OtterBox Digital Dome Theater and launch your own mission of space exploration. Who knows what you’ll discover?

Student ages: 6-8 years old

Tuition: $150 per child

Dig, discover, and develop the skill of telling stories through fossils. Become a dino expert as you explore the life of dinosaurs and what it’s like to be a Paleontologist! Dinosaurs…can you dig it?

Student ages: 6-8 years old

Tuition: $150 per child

Mountain lions, tiger salamanders and ferrets…Oh my! Explore how adaptations help animals survive in extreme environments, meet some native Colorado animals up close, and develop an appreciation for the many animals that share our world.

Rock out at FCMoD…no matter what your skill level is! From jamming on real instruments to discovering new music technology, you’ll be sure to find your inner rock star. Get amped up!

Learn how actual engineers and designers solve problems in the real world! Start dreaming and creating with pencil and paper and then move on to build crazy creations with thousands of LEGO parts. All you need is your creativity!

Play-Well TEKnologies provides LEGO® parts for student use during the camp only – all projects will be disassembled and returned to Play-Well at the end of each week.

Student ages: 6-8 years old

Tuition: $175 per child

Ages 9-11 (Academy)

Someday, you might be one of the first explorers to walk on Mars! What will it take to get there? Come learn about all the things we’ll need to get to Mars: rockets, space travel, building a space colony, and living on an alien planet. Are you up for the challenge? 3…2…1…blast off!

Student ages: 9-11 years old

Tuition: $180 per child

TOP SECRET! For kids’ eyes only…Do you have what it takes to go on a covert operation? Work as a team to crack the codes, gather intelligence, lift a few fingerprints, and use your powers of observation to solve the case. Join today to be trained as an FCMoD Spy!

Survey, excavate, and curate! Brave the outdoor elements to become an archaeologist, and piece together mysteries of the past with the artifacts you discover. It’s up to you to find and preserve the stories and artifacts before they’re lost forever!

Ages 11-15 (Masters)

Become a virtual reality storyteller in FCMoD’s OtterBox Digital Dome Theater! Explore what makes storytelling in 360° different than any other format and go hands-on with cutting edge cameras and other tools to create immersive, live-action 360° video projects that can be experienced in the digital dome and in VR. At the end of the week you’ll screen your unique 360° productions in a very special show for family and friends!

Student ages: 11-15 years old

Tuition: $200 per child

Love playing video games? How about creating them? What if the game you create could wrap all the way around you in a totally immersive experience? Join us this summer to become some of the first game designers to create interactive experiences in FCMoD’s OtterBox Digital Dome Theater! Explore gaming in the dome and utilize professional tools to create your own unique 360º dome experience. At the end of the week, share the experience you’ve created with your friends and family during a special demonstration!

Student ages: 11-15 years old

Tuition: $200 per child

Get ready – the zombies are coming, and we need you to defeat the outbreak! Will you become the epidemiologist who investigates the outbreak, the emergency specialist who prepares the team to fight against it, or the scientist who discovers the cure? This outbreak will take you on an adventure into the science lab and battlefield, and can only be stopped with your help – can you save us?

Student ages: 11-15 years old

Tuition: $175 per child

Choose your instrument and let’s rock! It takes a whole team to create memorable music moments on stage – from creative songwriters to lighting and sound mixing technicians. We’ll assemble a band and pick from a list of easy to learn songs to get you up on the stage and into the spotlight!
