Fort Collins Museum of Discovery (FCMoD), is a unique public/private partnership that engages visitors in an innovative learning environment. The Manager, Digital Experiences plays an integral role within the FCMoD team network, supporting digital experiences of all kinds across our gallery, for traveling exhibitions, and our digital dome theater. From long-term exhibits to specific project needs, duties include routine assessment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all digital media-based software and hardware. The Manager, Digital Experiences will guide the development of FCMoD’s digital media assets and ensure they function at the highest level, providing consistent meaningful engagement for our museum audience. 

A successful candidate will implement industry standard-practices to ensure reliable operation of digital media assets, including regular maintenance and backup protocols. The ideal candidate demonstrates an understanding of how to integrate digital media into exhibits, programs, the museum’s website, as well as into marketing and promotional endeavors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive. 

  • Work with colleagues across the museum network to guide and support the development of digital assets and experiences.
  • Propose and apply creative ideas and solutions for content delivery via audio and visual means.
  • Maintain interactive media exhibits including content refreshment, and troubleshooting of projectors, screens, computers and other AV systems and hardware.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to website, exhibit digital assets, and digital dome theater to correct errors and provide routine system and software maintenance of digital media experiences and digital dome theater.
  • Manage the scheduling and training of staff for the digital dome theater, providing fill-in staffing if needed.
  • Track expenses, develop and maintain a budget related to digital media purchases (such as supplies and equipment), as well as other projects assigned documents and manages inventory of equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Make recommendations for equipment purchase, system design, and facility utilization.
  • Research and develop content for digital experiences, including the digital dome theater.
  • Build and maintain local partner connections with content experts in film, theater, astronomy and more.
  • Maintenance and backup of real-time software system for the digital dome theater, including training, hardware and software maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage development of digital media related documentation, including procedural and troubleshooting guides.
  • In cooperation with City IT, assist with monitoring computer systems and applications throughout the museum (such as program laptops), updating, planning, and recommending upgrades and/or modifications as identified or required.
  • Respond to weekend system issues with the digital media experiences, or digital dome theater, work during peak museum visit times, including the end-of-year holiday season and other identified busy times at the museum, such as evening programming.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES 

  • Enjoys interacting, educating, and engaging people and general museum visitors, from school-age students to family groups.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of video editing software (iMovie, Adobe After Effects) is desirable.
  • Ability to use web development, database, project management, word processing, and presentation software.
  • An understanding of platform and development issues for both PC (BIOS) and Mac.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair issues in computer-based systems, such as personal workstations, the digital dome theater, and digital media-related exhibits and traveling exhibitions we host.
  • Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and convey training information clearly and effectively, with a willingness to both learn and teach.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documents common to this environment.
  • Ability to search out and utilize various knowledge bases for either new or outdated technologies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with users, co-workers and vendors while participating on inter- and intra-agency teams.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence to effectively interact, work, and develop meaningful relationships with people of diverse identities, perspectives and cultural backgrounds.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred in relevant field.  Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in tech support, programming and application development, or content management preferred. Experience working with diverse populations highly desirable.  Will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications.

LANGUAGE SKILLS – Ability to effectively and concisely present information and respond to questions from the general public, co-workers, media and other stakeholder groups. Ability to write, prepare and deliver effective reports, business correspondence and presentations. Additional language fluency highly desirable.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES – This position may supervise staff, task assignments, and manage volunteers and interns.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to handle, feel or motion. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel crouch or crawl. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS – Driver’s license or ID card issued by a State or territory of the United States is required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Classification: Full time, salaried, exempt 
  • Salary Range: $38,000 – $72,200

The Manager, Digital Experiences position is a salaried, exempt position that is eligible for defined benefits under the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery Nonprofit Partner. This position is eligible for 11 paid holidays, accrued personal time off and sick time.
