Wellness Walk

In conjunction with FCMoD’s newest special exhibition, Mental Health: Mind Matters, join Volunteer Naturalists for a short and slow wellness walk along the Poudre River! Discover ways to incorporate mindfulness and daily time in nature into your self care routine.

Up to 1 mile; easy pace. Space is limited, pre-registration recommended. Participants must wear a mask and maintain social distancing of 6 ft. while participating in the program. Walks will leave promptly at 1pm from the main entrance of Fort Collins Museum of Discovery. Please arrive 10 minutes early. Presented in partnership with City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Department.

Getting Out the Vote: Native Women’s Perspectives on Building Civic Engagement

Join this panel of Native American women for a discussion about voting rights and voter suppression from the viewpoint of the Native American community. This group of incredible women will share their experiences as Indigenous leaders and provide resources to help address barriers to voting in 2020 and beyond. This webinar series is part of an initiative to raise awareness of the 19th Amendment’s centennial and to “highlight stories of women who continue to shape the world.”

This week, join FCMoD as panelists from the Child Trauma and Resilience Assessment Center (CTRAC) at Colorado State University chat about complex trauma and resilience. What is CTRAC? How is trauma impact and resilience assessed in children and families? What does it look like to build a trauma informed community? Tune in to ask these questions, or one of your own!

Siendo padres de familia durante una pandemia

¿Eres madre o padre de algún niño pequeño? ¿Te sientes agobiada/o con los retos que presenta el COVID durante el aprendizaje remoto, o con comportamientos difíciles de manejar, o con todo lo que implica ser padre de familia durante estos tiempos? No estás sola/o.

Con la idea de tomar acciones en conjunto con nuestra exhibición especial Salud mental: Asuntos de la mente, el Museo del Descubrimiento de Fort Collins, con la ayuda del Consejo Infantil del Condado de Larimer (Early Childhood Council of Larimer County), se transforma en un lugar donde padres de familia y tutores puedan conectarse, compartir historias y aprender de la experiencia de especialistas localizados en nuestra área.

Estas reuniones virtuales serán facilitadas por la Dra. Buffy Trent Wolf, psicóloga y experta en salud mental infantil. Durante estas sesiones, la doctora proporcionará información, recursos y herramientas sobre factores estresantes comunes causado por COVID que están impactando a adultos y a niños por igual. Los participantes tendrán la oportunidad de conectar con otras familias en el área que están actualmente experimentando desafíos similares, además de celebrar también todos los triunfos por más pequeños que sean.

Se ofrecerán dos reuniones cada mes, una en inglés y otra en español, durante las siguientes fechas:

Mental Health Minds Matter: A Music Industry Night

A private gathering for the music community centered on mental health and the Mind Matters Exhibit. Mental Health: Mind Matters creates a safe space for important conversations about mental illnesses.

Misconceptions and stigma lead to prejudice and discrimination. This exhibition and related programming can help #MakeItOK to talk about mental health. Mental illness touches all of our lives in some way, making this exhibition an important resource.

To sign up, please visit the ticket link and select the best time slot for you to experience the exhibit! There is no time restriction on your visit, but to meet state guidelines with COVID, we allow a handful of people in at a time.

DINNER WILL BE PROVIDED courtesy of Music City Hot Chicken! Enjoy a free meal while you take advantage of a myriad of resources for musicians and members of the music community, from rent assistance programs to food.

Music Therapy Workshop

Music Therapy? What is that?! Join FCMoD as we take a closer look into this amazing tool for bettering our mental health. Learn about the history, techniques, and benefits Music Therapy has to offer. Experience first hand what music therapy is.

This workshop will take place at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery in Learning Lab 109 on November 14th.

Cost: Tickets for this program are available with a pay-what-you-can model! Whatever your budget, we want you to participate fully and comfortably.
