Ferret Feeding
Visit with FCMoD’s very own live black-footed ferrets, the most endangered mammal in North America!
Join us in the Natural Areas Exhibit to learn about the conservation work being done to return black-footed ferrets to the wild, from the national captive breeding program to new advances in cloning. Meet our black-footed ferrets and watch as our furry friends tear into their weekend meal. Who knows, you just might become BFFs with our BFFs!
Museum admission is not required to attend this program, but the capacity is limited and first-come, first-served.
Visit with CSU Bug Zoo!
Get to know arachnids, insects, and arthropods when the CSU Bug Zoo visits FCMoD! CSU Bug Zoo strives to bring a deeper appreciation for arthropods through hands-on learning. See both live and mounted specimens of spiders, roaches, and other crawlies, and learn all about the great big world of bugs! Find out how to identify bugs in our local ecosystem and take your outdoor exploration to the next level. The Bug Zoo create opportunities with live insects, enthusiastic volunteers, and continued involvement in the Fort Collins community.
Free with museum admission.

Blessed with a sun-drenched yard? Join Alison O’Connor of the CSU Extension Service to learn how to make sun-friendly perennial, tree, and shrub choices for a beautiful, more sustainable yard. Registration is required and tickets are available as pay-what-you-can.

Black-Footed Ferret Masks
Join us under the Linear Irrigator on our gallery floor and create your very own Black-Footed Ferret Mask! Discover their astounding story of survival and recovery and what makes this little guy such a big topic in the conservation world. Program is free with museum admission.
Poetry Workshop: Earth Matters
Come write poetry at Fort Collins Museum of Discovery! There is a strong tradition of poets writing about the environment. This special workshop will use poetry to explore and reflect on questions posed by our current exhibit about climate, Earth Matters: Rethink the Future. This workshop is for anyone interested in thinking and writing creatively about our changing earth. No experience necessary. Foley Art
KaBoom! Zing! Clank. Screeeeech… Join FCMoD as we explore Foley Art – the art of adding sound to post-production cinema. Learn about the history of sound in film, and discover what tools are used to create the pew pew of laser blasters, the clip-clop of horse hooves, and the simple background noise of everyday life. Get ready for hands-on exploration of how a variety of sounds are made by foley artists while you build your very own sound-creation tool kit! Free with general admission.
Moon Afternoon
Join us on January 21st 2023 for an afternoon of space themed fun celebrating the Artemis Mission and Humanity’s return to the moon.
- 10:00-1:00 Space themed floor programing
- 12:00-2:00 solar scopes with NCAS (outside)
- Take a safe up-close look at our sun through specialized telescopes
- 1:00-1:30 Tonight’s Sky in the Dome
- Get a guided tour through the night sky and learn where to find stars, constellations, and planets.
- 1:45-3:30 Artemis Ascending in the Dome
- Watch recorded footage of the recent Artemis rocket launch and get a behind the scenes look at the future of the Artemis program.
