Meet the Ukulele Workshop

Is your ukulele gathering dust in a closet? Looking for a new outlook on the instrument? Join us for a uk-mazing time in a basic introduction to the Ukulele! Explore the history behind the instrument, discover how to best care for your Uke, and learn chords, strumming patterns, and songs. Uke can do it!

Registration closes 30 minutes before the program starts. Instruction for this workshop will take place live on Zoom on January 16th. A packet will be sent to the provided email upon registration. Zoom link and additional information packet will be emailed to you the day of the program. We ask that you provide your own Guitar.

Foley Art Workshop

KaBoom! Zing! Clank. Screeeeech… Join FCMoD as we explore Foley Art – the art of adding sound to post-production cinema. Learn about the history of sound in film, and discover what tools are used to create the pew pew of laser blasters, the clip-clop of horse hooves, and the simple background noise of everyday life. Get ready for hands-on exploration of how a variety of sounds are made by foley artists while you build your very own sound-creation tool kit!

Virtual Book Signing: Biology Everywhere

Join us for an interactive virtual book signing with Dr. Melanie Peffer, author of “Biology Everywhere” on Facebook Live, where we will explore topics from Dr. Peffer’s book such as the biology of how we experience music, how art influences one of the greatest discoveries in neuroscience, and music therapy in relation to our recent special exhibition Mental Health: Mind Matters.

Books will be available for purchase through the Museum Store.

About Biology Everywhere: Biology Everywhere is an overview of biology through the lens of our everyday experience. It is written for the general public, but could be a good alternative text in the biology classroom. Meet the Electric Bass Virtual Workshop | 11 AM

The electric bass can usually be found on the side of the stage, steady and solid. But just what makes the bass rock? If you have ever wondered what the bass is all about or have one lying around but have never played it, then this workshop is for you! Join us for a journey through the bass’s past, how it has changed through time, and discover what you need to know to start your bass rocking career. Walk away with a deeper understanding of this instrument’s past and your very own bass starter packet to help you begin jamming on the funky bass.

Explore your world with Discovery Live: Ask a _________! Tune in to hear from a variety of guest experts, ask questions, and discover science, history, and art happening in your own backyard!

On March 3rd, join FCMoD and chat with local biologists working in bat conservation. What bat species live in Colorado? How do they navigate in the dark? What should I do if I find a bat outside during the day? And do they really “vant to suck your blood?” Tune in to ask these questions, or one of your own!
