Sound Ecology Workshop | 2 PM

Hushhhh, be quiet and listen. Join us for the Sound Ecology Workshop to discover how sound is used to explore our world and gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between humans and nature. Together we will explore what a Sound Ecologist does, the tools they use to study sound, and the tales those sounds tell!

Required Materials: Pencil, Printed Worksheet (emailed to provided email), a good set of ears!

Registration closes on Friday, April 23 at 5:00pm. Instruction for this workshop will take place live on Zoom on Saturday, April 24 at 2:00pm. Zoom link and information packet will be emailed to you on the day of the program.

Cost: Tickets for this program are available with a pay what you can model! Whatever your budget, we want you to participate fully and comfortably. Your support makes a big difference for our nonprofit museum during these unprecedented times.

Ages: Open to all ages; designed for ages 7-10. Young participants may require caregiver supervision and aid.

How is listening to music that helps me different from music therapy? Do you need to know how to play an instrument to participate in music therapy? Meet the Ukulele Virtual Workshop | 10 AM

Is your ukulele gathering dust in a closet? Looking for a new outlook on the instrument? Join us for a uk-mazing time in a basic introduction in to the Ukulele! Explore the history behind the instrument, discover how to best care for your Uke, and learn chords, strumming patterns, and songs. Uke can do it!

Registration closes on Friday, May 14 at 5:00pm. Instruction for this workshop will take place live on Zoom on Saturday, May 15 at 10:00am. Zoom link and information packet will be emailed to you on the day of the program. We ask that you provide your own Ukulele.

Endangered Species Day Celebration

Celebrate Endangered Species Day with FCMoD! Did you know? The museum is home to the most endangered mammal in North America: the black-footed ferret! Tune in to learn about the history of conservation surrounding this fascinating animal, from its rediscovery in 1981 to today’s captive breeding and reintroduction program and new efforts in cloning. Meet the scientists – and the black-footed ferrets themselves! – bringing this endangered species back from the brink of extinction!

On May 26th, join FCMoD as panelists from LifeStance Health (formerly Heart-Centered Counseling) tell us “Everything you ever wanted to know about therapy…but were afraid to ask!” How do I know if I need therapy? What can I expect from a therapy session? What do therapists hope clients get from the therapy experience? Who are these therapists anyway? Does therapy really work? You’ll get honest answers, even to the funniest of questions (yes, they’ve even been asked, “What if I have to pee during a session?”).

Lend an ear! Join us in learning about the inner workings of the human ear; how our ears process sound using the smallest bones in the body to helping us maintain balance. Do not be hard of hearing! Hop online and learn just how amazing our ears are.
