Sound Ecology Workshop

Shhhhhh… Listen. What do you hear? The wind in the trees? A bug buzzing by? A plane flying high above? Join us for the Sound Ecology Workshop to discover how sound is used to explore our world and gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between humans and nature. Together we will explore what a Sound Ecologist does, the tools they use to study sound, and the tales those sounds tell!

Advance registration is recommended. The workshop will take place in-person at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery. Please check-in at the front desk upon arrival. We encourage all participants to wear a face covering, and require social distancing of 6ft. between groups during the program.

Ages: All ages are welcome, workshop is specifically designed for ages 7 and above. Younger children may require caregiver assistance.

Cost: Tickets for this program are available with a pay what you can model! Whatever your budget, we want you to participate fully and comfortably. My, what big eyes you have. The better to see conservation efforts with! Join FCMoD as we welcome the WOLF Sanctuary and their ambassador animals! Learn about wolf biology, behaviors, and ecology, as well as the exotic pet crisis and what you can do to help wolves in captivity and the wild.

Explore your world with Discovery Live: Ask a _________! Tune in to hear from a variety of guest experts, ask questions, and discover science, history, and art happening in your own backyard!

On August 4th, join FCMoD and chat with local experts in water sustainability. What does a healthy watershed look like? What are some ways businesses and individuals can limit the amount of water they consume? And what can you do to protect local river ecosystems? Tune in to ask these questions, or one of your own!

Foley Art Workshop

KaBoom! Zing! Clank. Screeeeech… Join FCMoD as we explore Foley Art – the art of adding sound to post-production cinema. Learn about the history of sound in film, and discover what tools are used to create the pew pew of laser blasters, the clip-clop of horse hooves, and the simple background noise of everyday life. Get ready for hands-on exploration of how a variety of sounds are made by Foley Artists while you build your very own sound-creation tool kit!
