Snacktivities: Healthy Apple Nachos
Looking for a fun, healthy way to get your kids in the kitchen? Snacktivities has you covered! Our teaching kitchen offers unique recipes like healthy apple nachos and cheerio doughnuts that are not only delicious, but fun to make, too! With our hands-on approach, your children will learn basic cooking skills while also learning how to make healthy snacks they’ll love. Plus, our program promotes healthy eating habits for life. Your child will construct a container out of cardstock. From there, they will learn how to transform a whole apple into a sweet treat that they can make with ingredients found at home.
Pricing:
- Children 3 and up: $7/$5 members

Black-footed Ferret Feeding
Visit with FCMoD’s very own live black-footed ferrets, the most endangered mammal in North America!
Join us in the Natural Areas Exhibit to learn about the conservation work being done to return black-footed ferrets to the wild, from the national captive breeding program to new advances in cloning. Meet our black-footed ferrets and watch as our furry friends tear into their weekend meal. Who knows, you just might become BFFs with our BFFs!
The presentation will start at about 10:15 a.m.
Museum admission is not required to attend this program, but the capacity is limited and first-come, first-served.

Join us in The OtterBox Digital Dome Theater this summer for an immersive story time experience like no other! Kids can explore and discover with just the turn of the page in a different book every 1st and 3rd Wednesday, June through August.
7/19 Prairie that Nature Built
On the wide open prairie, animals abound! Join us in the OtterBox Digital Dome Theater as we read The Prairie That Nature Built. From tiny insects to majestic bison, this story will help children understand the interconnectedness of plants and animals as they explore one of the most endangered ecological systems in the world.
After exploring the prairie in the dome, scurry downstairs for a special meet-and-greet with Kimberly Fraser from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and FCMoD’s BFFs (Black Footed Ferrets, that is!) as well as a book signing with the illustrator of The Prairie That Nature Built, Cathy Morrison!
Cathy Morrison is a children’s book illustrator who is passionate about nature, science and the environment. You can learn more about her here

8/2 Twinkle, Twinkle, Daytime Star
Join us for an interactive storytime experience with author Elizabeth Everett as she reads her book Twinkle, Twinkle Daytime Star. In this storytime we’ll discover the many ways the Sun affects our world, from small things we experience every day on planet Earth, to the way our entire solar system functions.
Suggested age range: 2-7
Afterwards, join us in The Museum Store for a book signing with Elizabeth!
About the author: Elizabeth Everett spent 16 years as a classroom teacher before venturing into writing. She has taught elementary school, middle school, high school, and at the collegiate level where she worked with adults pursuing teacher
Inspired by her energetic youngster and his love for books, she took her background in education and meshed it with his childhood interests. The result was edu-tainment in the form of children’s books!
She currently lives in Colorado with her family where they love spending time outdoors.

Honey is a sweet gift from nature – ALL of nature, actually! Bees are only the beginning as we journey through the intertwining natural world around us. From the golden honey on bread to the earthworms crawling underground, children will discover how all of nature is connected! Recommended for Grades 1 – 2
